Privacy Policy

Chemins du Soleil is a ski route-finder for the Portes du Soleil resort area. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no server run by us that stores your personal data. This page explains what little data the app does touch, and where it goes.
Location
If you allow it, the app asks your browser's Geolocation API for your current position, once per visit, to find the nearest resort and show its live weather and avalanche conditions. Your coordinates:
- are requested and processed entirely on your device, by your browser;
- are sent to the weather and avalanche APIs described below, purely to look up conditions at that spot;
- are never sent to us, and we have no server that could log them.
If you use Share my location (the "Meet up" option on the Home tab), your current coordinates and the time are written into a link that you send to someone yourself, through your device's share sheet. Anyone with that link can see that position. The link is not stored or sent anywhere by the app; whoever opens it uses their own location, on their own device, to work out a route to you.
You can decline the location prompt and pick a resort manually instead, or change your mind later from your browser's site settings.
Data stored on your device
The app uses your browser's local storage, entirely on your device, so it keeps working offline and doesn't ask the same question twice:
- the resort you last selected (so the app can remember it next time);
- the most recent weather and avalanche readings, so there's something honest to show if you open the app without a connection.
None of this is transmitted anywhere. Clearing your browser's site data for this app removes it completely.
Third-party services
Live conditions come from two independent, external services, contacted directly from your browser:
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — weather and snow data, looked up by coordinates only, no API key or account involved;
- open-piste — avalanche risk data for resorts it has coverage for, also looked up by resort, not by you.
Only the coordinates or resort needed for the lookup are sent, nothing that identifies you. These services are run independently of Chemins du Soleil, and their own handling of that traffic (such as standard server logs) is outside our control.
Offline app cache
As an installable app, Chemins du Soleil uses a service worker to cache its own files and the route-finding data on your device, so route-finding keeps working without a connection. This cache lives in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers.
- No data is sold, shared, or used for any purpose beyond the live lookups above.
Children's privacy
The app doesn't knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age, beyond what's described above.
Changes to this policy
If how the app handles data ever changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised accordingly.
